PMO Importance25 January 2008PMO Importance The Importance of Influence The PMO ultimately succeeds more through its influence than through its direct work. This is true of all PMOs, but less true of the Directive PMO, as is discussed below. But the bottom line is this: with influence, a PMO will succeed, and without it, a PMO will fail. Successful influence leads to these activities and attitudes throughout the organization: Adoption of the methodology, standards, processes, and tools provided by the PMO Application of what the PMO offers to prevent and solve problems on projects Use of the PMO's training, mentoring, staff development and project support services Acceptance of controlling oversight of projects by the PMO, and clear, practical management response to reviews and audits Cooperation with the PMO's efforts to manage the projects it managers directly Appreciation of the PMO's services and activities Posted in PMO
