Types of Influence

The different types of influence are related to the different types of PMO, as fully described on the PMO Types Learning Page. They are summarized here:

The General PMO has little influence, and focuses on making methods and tools available and proposing solutions to problems. It's goal is to increase its influence by showing the success of its methods.

The Supportive PMO influences by helping others to succeed. Project Managers receive training, mentoring, and other services and are then able to succeed on projects where they couldn't succeed before.

The Controlling PMO influences by evaluating and guiding. Control is feedback information that management can use to succeed in meeting its objectives.

The Directive PMO influences by achieving. It manages projects directly, and, when they succeed, the benefits are realized.
