Project Management Office Success

Project Management Office Success

On taking a closer look, it is evident that the definition of success is nowhere near that clear. Here are common events that some would see as success, others as failure.

Delivery of a useless system. The project completed, and results were accepted. However, the customer had long ago given up on the project, and seen it as a useless exercise, and never makes use of its results.

The project delivers late and over-budget. The Project Manager calls this a success because the project did deliver, and the customer accepted the delay and cost increase. The customer says the project failed, but what choice did he have but to give the extra money and wait for the results?

The project fails, but officially is cancelled. Is cancellation a failure? Some would say yes, others no.

The project is renamed and restarted, and the second project succeeds. Is that one failure and one success, or a recovery and a single success?
