Define Project Management Database Requirements

The organization's requirements for a project management templates database are defined in the four steps shown:

1.      Define Content Requirements

2.      Define Functional Requirements

3.      Define Structural Requirements

4.      Define Technical Requirements

n

Define content requirements. In this step, the information that the database should contain is specified.

n

Define functional requirements. In this step, the user group, user interfaces, access, and capacity requirements are specified.

n

Define structural requirements. In this step, the qualities of the database management system (DBMS) are defined. A DBMS is configured to hold the structure that contains the data.

n

Define technical requirements. In this step, the requirements for capacity, and for interoperability with the network, the operating systems, and other software are defined.

Define content requirements

Content requirements are specified in a technical document called a data dictionary. The data dictionary is prepared by a data analyst. The data analyst for a PMO should be a project manager with experience as a business analyst and trained in data analysis. If the PMO team does not include a person with these skills, then the PMO team should acquire a person with the appropriate skills for the task.
