Evaluate Existing Internal Databases

In looking at internal databases, it is also necessary to examine sets of data which are not in databases, but should be. The PMO should identify all online project management data and data structures in any of these formats:

n

Printed and written document: paper documents stored in file cabinets

n

Electronic documents: stored documents in any type of computer file, including word processing, spreadsheets, and others

n

Forms and project management templates : printed or electronic forms and templates have an implicit data structure that should be evaluated in data analysis

n

Embedded databases: the databases inside many custom applications, including all project management scheduling programs and financial systems them

n

Databases: Database programs that contain project management information

Each database, data structure, or data set must be described and analyzed following the three steps in this diagram:
