Develop Project Management Knowledge Base Adoption Plan

07 April 2009

Develop Knowledge Base Adoption Plan

The final step in preparing the Knowledge Base Execution Plan is the development of the knowledge base adoption schedule for the Project Management Software. The adoption schedule contains two elements: the statement of approach, and the milestone chart. These are prepared in the two steps shown in this diagram:

  1. Prepare Statement of Approach
  2. Prepare Adoption Schedule

Prepare statement of approach. Choose one of the three approaches listed above: acquire a  knowledge base system, configure, and customize; acquire components, integrate, configure, and customize; or develop custom application. Add additional notes as appropriate. Then list the internal and external components that will be used to develop the knowledge base application, structure, and contents.

Prepare adoption schedule. The adoption schedule is a milestone chart that assigns dates to the major achievements of the implementation of the knowledge management system. If the system is being implemented when the PMO first launches, coordinate it with the PMO Execution Plan. If it is being implemented after the Project Manafement Life Cycle has begun operations, coordinate it with the PMO Improvement Plan.
